A Little Something From Soren

Here is a passage from one of the books that doesn’t mock me.

Book: Provocations: The Writing of Soren Kierkegaard

Essay: Kill the Commentators!

“With God’s help we can understand the Bible all right. Every commentary detracts, and he who sits with ten open commentaries and reads the Scriptures–well he is probably writing the eleventh. He is certainly not dealing with the Scriptures.”

“The Bible is quite easy to understand. But we Christians are a bunch of scheming swindlers. We pretend to be unable to understand it because we know very well that the minute we understand we are obliged to act accordingly.”
