Never Say Never

I know, it’s a cliche saying, but it dawned on me today that humans should probably refrain from using the word. It reminded me of a time years ago when someone told me “I will never not have time for you.” That meant the world to me and was probably one of the most dynamic things the person ever said to me. Years later the person doesn’t have time for me–and I suppose it’s due alot in part to my burning the sands of time between us.

Nevertheless…

It made me think about the infallibility of statements that emerge from the mouths of mortals. We can walk around with the best of intentions, but sometimes we truly fail ourselves by making promises we don’t have the ability to keep. It is impossible–at least for me–to say you will never do something, you have no idea what you will do even 60 seconds from now. You can purpose in your heart not to do something, but only time will tell. And thus we can just take it day by day and pray that our own human frailty–and flesh–doesn’t get the best of us.

I am just so glad that there is someone that can deliver on a promise, God. He said “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Now that’s a promise we can count on.
