Be Easy

Within the past several days, I have had a fair share of relationship conversations with my friends. With friends who are in the “getting to know you” stage. Friends who have gotten past that stage and are thinking about what comes next and with friends who are nowhere close but still, relationships weigh heavily upon the single female mind. I can’t go into great detail about any of the conversations but what I will say is that the overwhelming message I gathered by way of deduction was, be easy.

Far too often when some women meet a man, they are ready to plan the wedding before they have even gone on the first date. It is what author, Jackie Kendall, would call the eleventh commandment. “Defraud not thyself, harming oneself through one’s fantasy life.” We’ve all done it. You meet a man with an ounce of potential and you’ve already started naming your first-born child. You gush to your friends about his wonderful qualities and before you know it, you’ve set up a fantasy relationship that has surpassed the natural one and in the end, because you were in la-la land, you screwed it up. Well, this is a wake-up call to all of my daydreaming friends. I’m not fan of Eckhart Tolle but he does say something which I find quite profound. He mentions living in the “now.” Living in the present moment. And I dig it.

Living in the now with any given relationship–male or female, professional or personal–means that you are living in that exact moment as God intended. Scripture says “Do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.”

If you just interviewed for a job, don’t fret about the mistakes you might have made in the interview. Live in the present moment and know that your mistakes weren’t on purpose and surely you put yout best foot forward and God will take care of the rest. If you just met someone who you believe meets all the criteria of your Boaz but he seems to be moving at a snail’s pace, appreciate where you are now. Enjoy the fellowship/friendship. Don’t focus on what happened and what could happen, all of those things are inconsequential to the present moment that God has you in.

We are to wait on God and believe that what he has for us is for us. Don’t get impatient. Just know that however things are unfolding, it is unfolding the way God needs it to.

Wait on it and be not anxious.
